5 WAYS TO BOOST YOUR BODY AND MIND THIS WINTER

Winter is a time when many people feel a little bit sluggish. With the instinctual pull to hibernate, we tend to feel less motivated and have lower energy levels. Additionally, the darker months are often associated with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), also known as the winter blues, which affects around 2 million people in the UK each year. The good news is that there are several things you can do to boost your body and mind during the winter months.

1. Get moving as part of your daily routine

Incorporating movement into your daily routine can actually boost your energy levels. Exercise has been proven to reduce symptoms of fatigue by up to 60%. Gentle exercises such as walking, pilates and yoga can provide you with the much needed exercise-induced surge of hormones that help you feel more energised.

2. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!

Water is essential for the functions of the cells in our body. Without enough water, our body struggles to get rid of toxins and work at full capacity. UK Government advises us to consume 6-8 glasses per day (around 1.2 litres in total). There are many natural ways to increase your fluid intake that aren't as plain as water. Why not switch a glass of water for a Matcha Latte or a nourishing mug of Ceremonial Cacao?

3. Get enough sleep

Getting enough sleep is one of the many reasons our energy levels tend to deplete. In our fast-paced, technology-driven world, it is easy to lose hours each evening to screens. Many of the devices we use produce "Blue Light" which makes it hard for us to switch off. There are a few simple ways that we can calm our nervous system down before bed, like enjoying a calming bath, reading a book, meditating, or adding Reishi Mushroom Powder to a warm drink an hour before bed.

4. Stress less

When we are stressed, our body releases adrenaline (fight or flight). When this adrenaline wears off, it leaves our bodies feeling depleted and exhausted. The UK mental health foundation found that 74% of UK adults have felt so stressed at some point over the last year they felt overwhelmed or unable to cope. There are several ways to reduce your stress levels, such as talking to your GP or seeking help from local charities and talking therapies in your area. You can also use meditation and mindfulness to calm your nervous system down as well as incorporating Ceremonial Cacao into your daily routine, which is known as a natural mood elevator and anti-depressant.

5. Watch what you put in your body

Eating well is not always easy, especially when we have busy lives that call for quick meals and takeaways. The good news is that it's all about balance! You can incorporate healthy foods that boost energy into your diet by consuming superfoods like blueberries, spinach and Matcha that can easily be blended into drinks and smoothies. Meal prep services such as Hello Fresh & Gousto make cooking easy with their quick healthy meal boxes. Additionally, many products are fantastic for reducing stress and increasing energy levels, including ceremonial Matcha for an energy boost, Ceremonial Cacao as a mood elevator, and mushrooms for benefits that include calming the nervous system and providing focus.

It's important to remember that everyone's body and mind are different, and what works for one person may not work for another. However, by experimenting with these tips and finding what works for you, you can create a winter routine that helps you feel your best.
